Families invited to participate in National Eucharistic Pilgrimage
The National Eucharistic Pilgrimage is coming through Atchison this week before going through Nortonville, Topeka, Lawrence, and Kansas City. All SBCS families are encouraged to participate in this historic event!
Fr. Jeremy gave the following information to parishioners about the pilgrimage:
Dear Friends,
I would like to specifically to invite you to participate and to invite others to attend. In the words of Bishop Barron, "Friends, if one of the National Eucharistic Revival Procession routes is coming through your diocese, make time to walk in the procession or attend the Holy Hour."
Admittedly, I am biased as I traveled with the Perpetual Pilgrims for a week at the beginning of this great pilgrimage. I know how participating in this greatly encouraged me and strengthened my faith, as I saw how the faith of the Church is ALIVE! I can only expect that it would do the same for you and for our parishes through this encounter with our Lord in this way. We often saw PACKED churches because people were willing to travel hours to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime event. My hope is to have a great turnout here in Atchison, but that takes your attendance and encouragement.
The schedule for the events in Atchison:
June 25th:
3 pm or soon after - Arrival and Eucharistic Procession (They are coming from a parish in Iowa, so the exact time of arrival is unknown.) The procession will begin in a small field on the Missouri side of the Amelia Earhart Bridge. Many people will gather at the Farmer's Market at 4th and Main. From there, the remaining 1-mile procession will go up 4th Street on the way to the Benedictine College Gymnasium. 1st Communicants are invited to wear their dresses and suits and to help spread flower petals before the Lord.
5:00 pm - Vespers in the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium
5:30 pm - Evening Celebration with Dinner
5:30 pm - until before Mass in the morning - Adoration in the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium (instead of St. Benedict Church)
June 26th:
10:00 am - Mass with Archbishop Naumann In JPII Gym- There will be no 8:15am Mass this day!
11:15 am - Closing Eucharistic Procession
The National Eucharistic Procession continues to St. Joseph Church in Nortonville, Kansas for Adoration, a Potluck Lunch, and a 1-mile Eucharistic Procession.
For more information or to REGISTER, go to Benedictine.edu/pilgrimage or use the QR Code. Registration helps them reach out to you in case of weather updates and to pass on other important information. Something that was greatly appreciated by the Perpetual Pilgrims with whom I traveled was hand-drawn welcome cards by children. I will pass them on to the pilgrims as part of a welcome gift from the parish. The Perpetual Pilgrims for the Serra Route are Chima Adiole, Jaella Mac Au, Patrick Fayad, Chas Firestone East, Jack Krebs, and Madison Michel. Additionally, two seminarians from the Archdiocese of San Francisco, Dereck Delgado and Jimmy Velasco, are also Perpetual Pilgrims on this route. To learn more about each of the Perpetual Pilgrims, visit https://www.eucharisticpilgrimage.org/perpetual-pilgrims.
Shalom,
Fr. Jeremy Heppler, OSB
